Police in Maun are investigating a case in which a 56-year-old woman of Tumelo ward in Makalamabedi died after being hit by a vehicle along the Sir Seretse Khama road.
Assistant Superintendent Bofefeletse Papane of Maun Police said in an interview that the woman was hit by a Land Cruiser on July 27, when she was crossing the road with her four-year-old granddaughter.
He said the woman was certified dead at Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital, where the granddaughter, who sustained injuries, was hospitalised.
Assistant Supt. Papane said they were also looking for a suspect who obtained money from a 61-year-old man under false pretenses.
It is alleged that the man had given the suspect a lift at Boseja ward in Maun on July 24, who then asked him to stop along the way, where upon two men brandishing some form of identification and claiming to be police officers appeared and asked the driver for his driving licence.
The driver reportedly then took out his purse to show the bogus police officers his licence, during which time it was suspected that the men managed to steal his ATM card and a small paper which had his Personal Identification Number (PIN).
Assistant Supt Papane said the driver later received messages on his cellphone notifying him of a withdrawal of about P13 000.
He cautioned the public to refrain from offering strangers lifts.
Meanwhile, he said the police had arrested two men aged 24 and 40, who were found in possession of about 107 sachets of marijuana at their residence at New Town in Maun on July 29. Ends
