Kanye police arrest man for border jumping

Kanye Police have arrested a 30-year-old South African citizen for entering Botswana through ungazetted area in Barolong area.

In an interview, Kanye Station Commander, Superintendent, Mr Mmoloki Mogale said the man was also charged for driving without a licence.

He said the suspect was caught while driving in Kanye and was said to have been accompanied by two women, and a man of local origin.

The suspect paid the fines amounting to P3 000, adding that he was remanded pending COVID-19 testing.

Spt Mogale noted that the District Health Management Team had conducted tests for COVID-19 on the suspect adding, as a soon as the results were released, they would make arrangements for his repatriation and other logistics based on the outcome of the results. 

He, therefore, advised the public to understand the extremity of coronavirus and to refrain from harbouring immigrants who enter the country illegally and to report such cases. 

Supt Mogale warned that people should understand the implications as it was a risk to their lives and also costly to the government.

He, however, assured the public that they had intensified patrols to curb similar incidents. 

On another incident, Supt Mogale said they were also investigating an incident in which a 30-year-old man of Ga-Segwagwa Ward was reported to have allegedly stabbed his girlfriend multiple times on her back following a dispute.

According to Supt Mogale, the dispute which arose as a result of suspicion of infidelity turned violent leading to the man stabbing his partner with a sharp object. 

He said the suspect had been arraigned at Ga-Segwagwa kgotla and was detained at Lobatse Prison. Spt Mogale indicated that the woman though in critical condition was recovering.
