Kalahari Tours Company which operates Mogotlho safari lodge has undertaken some developments to upgrade the lodge from a two-star to a four-star facility.
Situated along the Khwai River at Mababe Zokotsama Community Trust concession, the lodge once upgraded, will be able to compete well with others in the growing travel industry.
In an interview, the company director, Mr Johannes Pretorius explained that the pandemic had taught them to think outside the box hence the decision to relocate the tented rooms towards the river so that the visitors could have a spectacular setting with a deck view of natural bush experience.
“To remain competitive in the tourism industry, we saw it fit to upgrade our facility to make it more appealing just like other lodges in the area. Our plan is to complete the project before the end of the year,” he added.
The lodge is a joint venture between Africa Field Sports, Mababe Zokotsama Community Trust and Kalahari Tours.
He said initially, the facility had 13 tented rooms which had been demolished and replaced with spacious and modernised structures that could accommodate 24 visitors.
Alongside the tented rooms, the new developments also include administration block comprising of a bar and a spacious lounge, a new kitchen and water reticulation system.
The company started with re-building of staff houses, construction of ablution blocks and major water reticulation system.
One of the managers, Mr Brendon Newton said the facility was located in an amazing and unique area with a rich diversity of life.
An added advantage to the facility, he said was that Mababe area was nestled between Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park and it would serve well as transit to Kasane, Savuti and Maun.
He said the facility was a perfect destination and visitors would have an opportunity to experience the magnificent wildlife of Mababe and the greater Khwai area.
He also explained that they wanted to explore untapped opportunities in the Mababe area as visitors would also experience the cultural aspect by touring the village of Mababe to interact with residents and appreciate their lifestyle.
“During the tour we want visitors to take part in community activities to make their adventure more enjoyable and memorable. We want to do something different,” he added.
The facility offers game drives, bush walks and cultural activities would be just a few of the experiences on offer. ENDS
