A 43-year-old man of Gumare was on Wednesday arrested on charges of sexually abusing his 14-year-old daughter.

The accused, who stayed in a one-roomed house with the victim at Legonono Ward, allegedly repeatedly committed the crime over a long period of time until the neighbours got suspicious and tipped off the police.

Gumare Police Station commander, Superintendent Dennis Zilawe said following a tip-off, the police engaged the victim’s guidance and counselling teacher to assist qquestion the girl and she confessed the ordeal.

He said upon the girl’s confession, the police arrested the father while the daughter was taken to the hospital for medical examination, where she was found to be pregnant.

Superintendent Zilawe said they had also engaged social workers to organise a safer place for the victim to stay. ENDS
