Court remands Kgosi Puleng of Dutlwe

07 Jul 2020

Molepolole magistrate Ms Kefilwe Resheng has remanded in custody Kgosi Motshegetsi Puleng of Dutlwe, 38, who is facing a charge for allegedly wounding and causing grievous bodily harm to the mother of his two children.

Court heard that Kgosi Puleng is alleged to have committed the offences on Saturday at Dutlwe and he will remain in police custody until July 30.

Kgosi Puleng allegedly stabbed the mother to his two children, Keduetswe Bonang with a sharp instrument on the stomach and also caused grievous bodily harm to Tiroyaone Modisawakgosi by kicking him until he sustained a fractured chin.

The victims are reported to be receiving treatment at Scottish Livingstone Hospital.

Denying the accused bail, Ms Resheng condemned the accused’s actions, saying his actions classified him as an irresponsible person, considering that he is a community leader.

“It is seriously embarrassing if this is what you did. “We cannot talk of bail at this present moment unless the two victims are out of danger and released from hospital,” said the magistrate.

Ms Resheng also challenged the accused’s plea that he be given bail so that he could take care of the children whose mother had been hospitalized, wondering why the accused failed to consider the children before committing the alleged offence.

Kgosi Puleng had earlier asked for bail, stating that he was the sole breadwinner for the family and that as a leader he was expected to provide service to the community.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor Assistant Superintendent Uyapo Koketso requested the magistrate not to grant the accused bail as the offence committed was serious.

He said it would be unfair for the accused to be released on bail when the two victims were lying critical in hospital.

Assistant Superintendent Koketso said, ‘I maintain that the accused be remanded because as the village leader his release is likely to jeopardies the prosecution case as he might influence some of the witnesses most of whom are the accused’s subjects.’ Ends
