Maun man murders mother girlfriend

02 Jul 2020

A 40-year-old Maun man is in police custody for allegedly killing his mother and his girlfriend.

Ramotswa Police Station commander, Supt Keoagile Tau said, in an interview, on Thursday that the suspect was arrested Tuesday following the death of the 26-year-old Bamalete Lutheran Hospital nurse believed to be his girlfriend.

He said upon his arrest, the suspect confessed to have also killed his mother on Sunday in Maun, two days earlier.

On investigation police discovered a decomposed body of the suspect’s mother.

Supt Tau said the suspect, who is self-employed and stays in Maun did not divulge what triggered his senseless acts of murdering the two.

The deceased nurse, who originates from Molepolole, was murdered at her house at Lesetlhana ward in Ramotswa.

The case brings to two, the number of murder cases recorded by Ramotswa police during the month of June, which Supt Tau said was worrisome.

“To have two cases of murder in a month is worrying, we cannot say we are not worried,” he said.

He said this could be due to the fact that people, especially men, who were the main perpetrators, bottle up issues and failed to seek assistance, adding that failure to seek help contributed to cases of murder.

He regretted that men continued to perpetrate gender-based violence, which sometimes lead to death of victims.

Supt. Tau advised that murder could never be a solution, but it rather created more problems and pain. BOPA
