A status update for a case in which a 19-year-old Koketso Moswanti allegedly stabbed her 24-year-old boyfriend Karabo Sello with a scissor at his home and causing his death days later last month, is set for August 24.
The order came after the state prosecutor, Sub Inspector Kenneth Ramere asked for another mention date pending investigations.
Sub-Inspector Ramere told the court that investigations were incomplete given the investigating officer had not finished to compile postmortem results, affidavits as well as the photo album.
He said since the last mention, they had been checking on the evidence compilation progress and the investigating officer promised that they would be ready by next week.
The accused, Moswanti had with her, the medical reports that she wished to submit to the court.
In his order, Mr Gaseitsiwe Tonoki of Broadhurst Magistrate Court asked the accused person to keep the medical reports safe and submit hand them over to her lawyer, who was not in court, because they would be needed when the trial resumed.
Mr Tonoki also asked the prosecution to be in haste so that the case would be quickly committed to the High Court.
“The sensitivity surrounding this case deserves all the quick attention it can get so that everyone can continue with their lives,” he said.
Moswanti, who is currently on bail and in custody of her mother, was granted bail in the last mention after her lawyer argued that reasons that the prosecution was awaiting a post mortem and compiling a photo album had no bearing with the accused person being remanded in custody.
The defence lawyer had also argued that it was difficult and unnecessary for the court to exercise the discretion to further remand the accused on a notion that she would not be safe outside and deemed the reason as just a feeling. Ends
