Zimbabwean Jazz maestro, Oliver Mtukudzi is set to perform at a Mascom Live Sessions at BotswanaCraft on October 11.
Tuku, as he is affectionately called by his fans, has played annually at BotswanaCraft since 2009. This time around, he will be coming with his full backing band called the Black Spirits.
Mtukudzi has had a number of tours around the world including several in the UK, US and Canada, among others where he performed for very large audiences. The legend, with his exceptional style of music, has earned a devoted following across Africa and beyond.
Local rising jazz star, Mshilo, who recently launched her new album titled ‘Ndo Enda’ will be the opening show for Mtukudzi and will perform alongside Stream Jazz who recently toured Italy.
Meanwhile, Mascom Live Sessions are now in their third year. They have so far included headline international artistes such as Hugh Masekela, Salif Keita, Ringo Madlingozi, Lira, and Freshly Ground as well as many other local and international performers.
BotswanaCraft director, Oliver Groth said the idea behind the sessions was to develop and strengthen the local live music performance industry. Groth indicated that they also felt it was time to invest in the local music industry, after hosting numerous back track artists, to encourage live stage performances. Ends
