Headman to appear before court

The headman of arbitration in Manxotae is likely to appear before the Nata Magistrate Court for allegedly assaulting and causing bodily harm to a 19-year-old man of Manxotae.

Speaking in an interview, Nata Police Station Commander, Superintendent Vincent Pitsietsile explained that the young man suffered a broken nose after he was hit by a stone allegedly thrown by the headman following a misunderstanding.

He said the young man was treated while the accused was helping police with investigations.

Supt Pitsietsile said if convicted, the headman was liable to a jail term not exceeding five years.

In another incident, Supt Pitsietsile said they recorded three road accidents over the weekend.

He said in one accident a truck hit a boom gate at Ngwasha Gate, but that no one was injured.

He said in another accident, four people escaped with minor injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned at Marulamantsi settlement near Nata.

He said the driver was driving without a license and  that investigations were ongoing to establish if he  has it.

Furthermore, the station commander said they charged a 58-year-old woman P500 for brewing traditional beer and selling it despite restrictions. Ends
