09 Jun 2020
Police in Maun have charged 15 people with unlawful gathering and failure to use masks contrary to COVID-19 regulations.
In an interview, District No. 5 Officer Commanding Senior Superintendent Peter Gochela said the 15 were found drinking alcohol by the river bank over the weekend.
Senior Supt Gochela said the police had observed several unlawful behaviour since the sale of alcohol resumed after the easing of lockdown restrictions.
He, however, said liquor outlets were complying with the regulations and stipulated operating times.
Furthermore, Senior Supt Gochela said 13 people were also charged with drunken driving.
He advised members of the public to comply with social distancing regulations. He also advised them to buy and drink alcohol at their homes as per the regulations, adding that the country was still under a state of emergency and that coronavirus was still a threat.
The charge for contravening COVID-19 regulations is a fine not exceeding P5 000. Ends
