A local company has responded to the COVID-19 crisis facing the country by assembling infra-red thermometres.
Touring the premises of the company at the Innovation Park recently, investment, trade and industry minister, Ms Peggy Serame and health and wellness minister, Dr Lemogang Kwape commended the company for its innovation.
Minister Serame commended Ditech company for producing locally assembled thermometers, adding that it was pleasing to see a local company responding to a crisis caused by the pandemic.
Dr Kwape applauded them for their creativity as well as creating jobs for Batswana
He added that their products came at the opportune time when the country was running short of thermometres in health facilities countrywide.
He noted that the shortage was more acute in schools and shops and urged them to continue with the business even post COVID-19
For his part, the managing director of Ditech, Mr Thatayaone Dichaba said after realising the need for infra-red thermometres, they decided to venture into assembling them because they were in short supply throughout the country and worldwide.
Mr Dichaba explained that his company, which employs 25 locals, could produce 1 000 thermometres a day, adding that they have already exported some of their products such as mobile phones to Mozambique.
He said their long-term plan was to expand as their facility could accommodate over 200 employees. Apart from assembling thermometres, the 100 per cent citizen owned company is also designing, customising and manufacturing mobile phones. Ends
