Alleged serial rapist arraigned

A 41-year-old alleged serial rapist, Tumelo Thebe of Mosanta ward in Mochudi, who was allegedly terrorising Kopong and surrounding areas during the lockdown was arraigned before Broadhurst Chief Magistrate Linah Mokibe-Oahile on June 4.
The alleged rapist is said to have been on bail for related crimes, which are still before the law pending investigations.
Particulars of the charge sheet are that on June 2, the accused person at or near Kopong in the Kweneng District raped two victims, contrary to Section 142, subject to subsection 2 of the Penal Code.
On the other two counts, Thebe is said to have robbed two victims of their belonging contrary to Section 292, subsection 2 of the Penal Code as he used excessive force.
From Arona Suping he allegedly stole belongings comprising of a cellphone worth P800, P460 cash, mint cellphone and a leather jacket worth P560.
He also allegedly robbed Amanda Chamisa of a tablet worth P1 000, a cellphone worth P200 and P300 cash.
Mogoditshane Police Station prosecutor, Sub-Inspector Keaipela Seekolo told the court that investigations were continuing as the accused person was recently caught.
She asked that the charge sheet be read to the accused person and that he also take a plea as the matter was fresh.
Sub-Inspector Seekolo pleaded that the accused person be remanded in custody to enable the investigator to finalise the investigations
She filed witness statements from the victims, which explained how the events of the offences unfolded.
“The stolen phones and the leather jacket were recovered from the accused person, therefore we ask that he be remanded in custody so as not to jeopardise the case in any way,” she said.
Chief Magistrate Mokibe-Oahile ordered that the accused person be remanded in custody and appear for his first mention on July 16.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to all the four counts. Ends
