Selebi Phikwe police have arrested a 19 year-old young man to help them with investigations in a case in which a 14 year-old girl of Ikageleng ward in the copper-nickel town was defiled.

The Station Commander Superintendent Meshack Pulenyane stated in an interview that the incident was reported to the police by the girl’s mother over the weekend and that investigations on the matter were still at a preliminary stage.

Meanwhile, the police are also investigating an incident in which a 36 year-old man allegedly raped a 25 year-old woman at Manga ward in Mmadinare.

Supt Pulenyane said the incident occurred on Sunday around 7pm and the suspect was arrested the same day. He said the suspect appeared at Selebi Phikwe Magistrate court on Tuesday May 19, where he was denied bail. The suspect will appear for mention again on June 09.ends
