Police decry use of dagga

Some residents of Letlhakane have allegedly substituted alcohol with dagga during the lockdown period.

Letlhakane police station commander, Superintendent Michael Maphephu, said they had recorded 14 cases of dagga during this period.

He stated that the police arrested a 26-year-old man during patrol, who was displaying suspicious behavior and turned out to be using dagga.

Supt Maphephu stated that the police accompanied the suspect to his place, where they discovered a packet of dagga weighing 100 grams. The suspect was remanded in police custody while investigations continued.

In another case, the police were investigating a case in which a 15-year- old girl was raped at Setoto cattle post on Friday.

According to Supt Maphephu, the victim was sent on an errand and met a certain boy who raped her.

The suspect was still at large while police investigations continued. Supt Maphephu advised the public to avoid sending young girls on errands at night.

The police also arrested illegal immigrants of Zimbabwean origin employed at some cattlepost in Boteti region. The suspects were detained for entering Botswana through ungazetted points and for working in Botswana without permits.

They were charged P1 200 Pula each and their employer charged P4 000. Ends
