Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) has embarked on an initiative to register all informal and formal SMMEs.

A press release from LEA director, corporate and stakeholder communications, Ms Boikhutso Kgomanyane says the main objective of the exercise is to develop a centralised database of all trading SMME businesses countrywide.

The release says the exercise will inform the development of targeted support programmes and policies that will benefit the sector.

or by dialing *165# on mobile phones.

Ms Kgomanyane says in order to avail COVID-19 food relief, informal sector businesses are required to have registered by 31 May 2020.

The release says in future SMME business development support by government, will only be availed to those registered on the SMME database.

SMMEs are also encouraged to continue registering beyond May 2020, says Ms Kgomanyane. Ends
