Police in Kasane are investigating a case in which some people broke into a compound of the owner of Kasane self-catering restaurant and stole valuables worth over P154 000.
Station commander, Superintendent James Maabong, said the incident occurred on Monday night. He said the perpetrators, who were still at large, forced entrance by breaking a kitchen door whilst the owner was away.
He said stolen items included television sets, jewelrey, cameras, laptops, clothes as well as alcohol beverages.
Preliminary investigations, according to Supt Maabong, showed that the thieves could have parked a getaway vehicle on the other side of the river.
Supt Maabong also said the thieves broke-in at Water Cottage, but did not steal anything.
He indicated that Kasane was experiencing numerous break-ins since start of the lockdown period, especially in businesses along the Chobe River. He said this was the fourth incident to happen since beginning of an extreme social distancing regulation.
Supt Maabong said the police in conjunction with members of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) had intensified their patrols at night along the Chobe River using a police boat. Ends
