04 May 2020

The Police on May 2 pounced on some homesteads in Kopong in search of drugs and other related stuff.

The search, which started at 0630 in the morning, was conducted by a team comprising of Criminal Investigating Department (CID) officers, uniformed Police,Special Support Group (SSG) and their sniffer dogs.

They were searching for marijuana, other drugs such as stimulants (cocaine) and others.

In an interview, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dipheko Motube said the lengthy search did not yield any results, adding that it did not mean that the people they searched did not trade in illegal drugs.

He said they would continue pursuit of offenders or traders so as to safeguard the future of Botswana’s young generation, who constitute majority of those using drugs.

Mr Motube said it was not yet over as they would continue to conduct similar searches in future.

Regarding traditional home brews, Mr Motube said the police would continue to charge whoever they find with such brews and appealed to Batswana to abide by the set rules during the extreme social distancing period. Ends
