Kanye police have arrested three men aged between 27 and 35 at Mongala Ward, who were found in possession of substances suspected to be dagga and methcathinone known as CAT’ during a raid in Kanye on May 2.

According to Inspector Gera Morris, the fourth suspect fled the scene during the search where police confiscated drugs and cigarettes, adding that the drugs would be taken for testing.

The men are likely to face charges of possession of illegal drugs, and if convicted, they would face a prison term not less than 10 years or more than 15 years, with no fine option.

Also, he said the three suspects were fined P1 000 each for contravening COVID-19 extreme social distancing regulations.

Still in Kanye, police also fined a 35-year-old woman of Kgwatlheng ward, P3 000 for brewing traditional beer during the extreme social distancing period.

Inspector Morris said the woman was a habitual traditional brewer as she was also charged in the previous raid.

Also, two men, aged 55 and 46, who were found at the drinking spot, were charged P500 for failure to remain confined at their places during extreme social distancing period. Ends
