Ghanzi police are investigating an incident in which a transparent plastic bag was found between prison dual perimeter fences containing four sachets of a substance suspected to be marijuana and two cell-phones.
Ghanzi Police Station commander, Superintendent Modiro Lekone told BOPA on April 28 that the bag was found by one of the Ghanzi prison officers on April 25 during a routine patrol.
Supt Lekone stated that the suspected substance was estimated to be 25 grams and its street value around P50.
The substance, he said, had been sent for forensic analysis. The two cell phones, an Atel and a Nokia1100 with SIM cards.
Supt Lekone issued a stern warning to culprits who have a tendency to smuggle prohibited substances into prison, saying the long arm of the law would soon catch up with them.
Mr Lekone said they had recorded two cases of illegal brewing of traditional beer, one from Kgaphamadi Ward in Ghanzi, another from Bere on April 27.
On the same day, he said seven people were arrested for loitering in the streets without travelling permits.
Also, Supt Lekone said they charged two taxi operators for operating without valid permits and were fined P1 000 each. ENDS
