Officer Commanding No. 6 District, Senior Superintendent Cyprian Magalela, says they are investigating a stock theft case involving a Directorate of Intelligence and Security agent and a prisons officer both stationed in Ghanzi as well as two unemployed men.

Senior Supt Magalela said in an interview on Friday that the investigations were in connection with five goats stolen in D’kar between April 18 and 19.

He said the accused, men aged between 28 and 31 years, appeared before Ghanzi Magistrate Court on April 23 and were granted bail.

On a separate matter, Senior Supt Magalela cautioned the public against scammers who ripped victims off their hard earned money on the pretext that they had won money in some competition.

He explained that scammers would call victims claiming that they wanted to deposit their winnings and for them to do so, one needed to provide an account with a zero balance.

He said the scammers told victims that in the instance that the account had money, they should send them (scammers) the funds through their cell phones and promised them that the transaction would be reversed afterwards.

Senior Supt Magalela said once the funds were transferred to the scammers the money would never be transferred back as promised. He said it was almost impossible to arrest or trace the perpetrators because they used unregistered sim-cards.

Snr Supt Magalela said they registered two such cases during the lockdown and another prior. He said the perpetrators it seemed, gathered information about the victim before conning them. BOPA
