Tlokweng police charge 242

Police in Tlokweng have charged 242 people for contravening the COVID-19 regulations.


The station commander, Superintendent Unoziba Rari told BOPA in an interview that the offences included failing to remain home and abuse of granted permit.

They also charged five men for illegal gathering, others were charged for selling liquor from home, brewing traditional beer while one was charged for opening a bar contrary to regulations.
 
Supt Rari said nonetheless, the community was generally complying with the regulations, adding that the number of those who contravened the regulations had dropped significantly.

He said at the beginning of the extreme distancing period, the police were recording about 50 cases per day but the numbers had reduced to an average of five cases per day.
 
On other issues, he highlighted that crime has reduced drastically in Tlokweng during the lockdown. ENDS
