Police charge 47 for breaking regulations

15 Apr 2020

Officer Commanding No.12 District says since the country went into lockdown on April 2, 47 people have been charged with travelling without permits in Kgatleng.

Speaking in an interview, Senior Superintendent Lesole Mosimane said although they continued to urge people to stay home, it was worrisome that people were moving around in Mochudi and other villages in Kgatleng, even those with travelling permits.

“What people need to know and understand is that just because you have a permit it does not mean you will not spread or contract the COVID-19 virus,” he said.

He further noted that since the lockdown there had been a reduction in offences in the district.

“We used to be troubled by burglary, rape, defilement and stock theft amongst others, but so far we have only recorded four burglary cases and this has translated into a 95 per cent reduction,” he said.

Senior Supt Mosimane further urged people to continue exercising caution and minimising non-essential travel.

He said they would continue to patrol and implement all the lockdown regulations without fear or favour. Ends
