Police charge 25 for illegal movement

07 Apr 2020

Good Hope Police have charged about 25 people for failure to remain confined at their place of residence in Good Hope and Mmathethe.

Good Hope Station Commander, Superintendent Mogomotsi Kwapa said in an interview that the people, who were fined P200 each, were caught on the second day of the state of emergency after failing to produce travelling permits.

He also said about four people were charged P500 and P1000 yesterday for unlawfully selling alcohol at their homes in Good Hope.

The police also charged a construction company in Good Hope and fined it P500 for failure to comply with the law by not washing tools and not using sanitisers on site and failure to use protective clothing.

Superintendent Kwapa observed that since the issuance of the permits, people visited the office of the District Commissioner with flimsy reasons that showed that they just wanted to loiter around the village.

However, Superintendent Kwapa said apart from the challenges, the numbers of border jumpers had decreased.

He indicated that Special support group and the Botswana Defence force were working tirelessly at the borders to ensure no one jumped the border.

He applauded councilors, village committees and Dikgosi for sensitising the public about the coronavirus. Ends
