Police charge 13 Public transport operators

Total of 13 public transport operators in Ghanzi have been charged and fined P 1000each for violating state of emergency regulations.

Ghanzi police station commander, Superintendent, Modiro Lekone told BOPA that 12 taxi drivers and one mini bus driver were charged and fined on Sunday for contravening regulations 9 (1) (a) of statuary instrument No 61/2020 of Emergency Powers Act cap 22:04,which suspended all transport licenses with effect from April 02 midnight.

He said some were claiming to be transporting essential workers but failed to produce licenses permitting them to do so.

Concerning the movement of people, he said it was minimal.

Kalkfontein station commander superintendent, Pizhani Kobole told BOPA that it had been calm in his policing area since commencement of country’s state of emergency. Ends
