SAA pays over P2 million for water bill

08 Sep 2013

Serowe Administration Authority (SAA) paid P2 472 295.51 for two months water bill of primary schools. SAA chairperson, Mr Bafana Motseothata said this during the sub-council meeting recently.

Mr Motseothata, who said the sub-council was faced with a challenge of high water bills, stated that the P2 472 295.51 water bill was for May and June this year.

He stated that the highest billed was that of Sehunou Primary School at P249 598.94 followed by Mmualefhe at P197 549.64, while P163 266.23 was from Newtown primary school. The lowest billed school he said was Moiyabana at P77.68.

He said the extreme disparities of water bills called for parents to teach their children on water conservation. On other issues, the chairperson said Water Utilities Corporation expressed concern about misuse of sewerage infrastructure and illegal connections.

Mr Motseothata appealed to the community to take ownership of the facilities to ensure that they remained useful up to design period. He said the corporation recently embarked on a project of rehabilitation of the treatment ponds to try and achieve the desired waste water discharge standards.

He said the project included the fencing of the effluent holding pond at Radihemelo to stop animals from getting into the pond.  He regretted that the fence was destroyed immediately after being handed by the contractor and appealed to the community to report those who are destroying such property.
