Fighters Holy Ghost share spoils
08 Mar 2020
Mmopane-based, Holy Ghost visited Jwaneng Fighters over the weekend where the two shared the spoils at one goal apiece.
In the Debswana First Division South game, in which each team was desperate for points, the visitors looked the favourites to go home with the maximum points, especially looking at their dominant play from the first whistle, as well as each team’s position on the log standings.
Fighters are one of the most struggling sides in the division and are currently only above Ncojane Young Stars, while Holy Ghost are still top four hopefuls.
The visitors dominated the midfield and had a number of chances, but were let down by lack of sharpness at the front.
After the break, Fighters found the back of the net only three minutes into the half through Lapologang Motlogi from a Kemo Pumkin corner. Fighters looked destined to collect all the three points that they were so desperately in need of, until the eleven minutes when they failed to clear a cross, allowing Batshani Bee to capitalise for a share of spoils.
The draw leaves Fighters still rooted in the danger zone at position 11, out of the 12-team league. With only four games left before the league wraps up, Fighters are still in danger of relegation to the lower division, despite the fact that in the previous season, they missed promotion to the elite league through the play-offs.
This season however, they have been a shadow of their past season’s performance. The draw on the other hand leaves David Bright drilled Holy Ghost still on position six.
In other games in the first division south league, log leaders, Masitaoka visited Broadhurst United, where the two played to a 0-0 draw.
The draw allowed Fighters, who are placed second, to trim the gap between them and Maja Tlhaga to only two points, after defeating Mochudi Rovers 2-0. The results now mean that both teams would not want to put a foot wrong in the remaining four games as they fight for an automatic promotion spot to the elite league.
Former Premier League aristocrats, Mochudi Centre Chiefs also registered a 2-0 win against lowly placed Ncojane Young Stars while UF Santos emerged 4-3 winners in a high scoring game against Black Forest.
In the last game, Matebejana visited Red Sparks where they emerged winners by a solitary goal. ENDS
