Nata police are holding a 46-year-old Lesotho national suspected to have stolen a South African registered Nissan Navara.
Speaking in an interview, station commander Superintendent Vincent Pitsietsile said police records showed that the suspect also had a pending case at Francistown’s Kutlwano Police Station following a 2018 accident he was involved in at Nata with a suspected stolen vehicle, a Ford Ranger.
Superintendent Pitsietsile said the suspect revealed under police interrogation that he had entered Botswana through Ramatlabama Border Post on transit to Zambia where he was to leave the vehicle.
He was arrested at Ngwasha gate on Thursday and would be handed over to Kutlwano police while Interpol would be engaged for further investigations, the station commander said.
In another incident, Superintendent Pitsietsile said a 54-year-old man of Manxotae was arrested the same day for unlawfully wounding his ex-girlfriend, aged 53.
He said investigations revealed that the two had separated but the man was trying to force himself back into the woman’s life hence the assault. ENDS
