Huawei ICT Academy partners with BOU

In its quest to align to the country’s desire to be a knowledge-based and Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) inclined economy, Botswana Open University (BOU) has partnered with Huawei ICT academy.
The Huawei ICT academy, which is housed at the BOU regional campus in the Fairgrounds area, is ready for operation.
To this end, BOU and Huawei on Tuesday signed a mutually beneficial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which the Huawei managing director, Mr Kayden Yehuihui said meant that BOU was fully registered under Huawei ICT Academy, with the full mandate to resource through online or directly, in the field of ‘routing and switching’.
He said the Huawei ICT academy would support BOU to train instructors to match the learning demands; update the course content and evaluate the institutional performance.
Mr Yehuihui also acknowledged Botswana government for setting up BOU and giving it an opportunity to partner with Huawei in preperation for the 4IR.
For his part, BOU deputy vice chancellor - Academic Services, Prof. Frank Youngman acknowledged Huawei for the fruitful partnership.
He said Huawei’s commitment to smart education is parallel to BOU’s commitment in digital flagship in higher education in Botswana.
Prof. Youngman said the partnership could advance BOU’s strategic objectives to be recognised for technology enhanced programmes, as the majority of tertiary programmes were offered primarily in the online environment, with face to face support, in a blended learning.
The ambition is to enhance and extend our digital learning environment and cooperation with Huawei is advancing that aspiration, he said. Ends
