Police have confirmed that one person died in a road accident that occurred in Jwaneng on Tuesday.
Jwaneng police station commander, Superintendent Thuso Basuti, said in an interview that the driver of the vehicle died after arriving at the hospital.
One of the eye witnesses, Mr Onthusitse Kebalese, said the vehicle was travelling at high speed and overtook several vehicles within the town.
"Unfortunately, the driver appears to have misjudged the speed and distance of the on-coming traffic and on realisation that he was headed for a head-on-collision, it appeared he engaged the hand-brake in an attempt to make a shap 90 degree turn to his left, but unfortunately, he hit a stationary bus that was at the t-junction," he said.
He said the bus driver alighted from the bus while it was still engaged and it dragged the vehicle back into the middle of the road. The driver of the bus, however, escaped unscathed.
Meanhwile, an officer for the department of fire services, Mr Selogilwe Sefawe, who also indicated that he witnessed the accident, advised drivers to always ensure that their vehicles were equipped with fire extinguishers because they would come handy in times of accidents. ends
