Government alive to civil servants concerns

Public officers welfare issues are of serious concern to government as they have the potential to impact negatively on service delivery, says Minister of Presidential Affairs Governance and Public Administration Mr Kabo Morwaeng.
“We are very much aware of what you are going through and it is our wish to work towards addressing them as they have the likelihood of impeding the manner in which services are delivered,” said the minister.
He was addressing public officers at Molepolole College of Education (MCE) recently.
Mr Morwaeng, who is Molepolole South MP, assured officers that government was working on improving their conditions of service but explained financial constraints remained a critical challenge.
Prevalent issues such as water shortage, separation of spouses due to transfers, as well as shortage of resources including transport and staffing would be looked into, he said.
He urged them not to be discouraged but to continue providing quality service.
Ms Shathani Orapeleng, an MCE lecturer, complained about failure to take teachers’ special skills into consideration during promotions.
The manner in which promotions were done, he said, smacked of favouritism and frustrated qualified teachers. Molepolole Institute of Health Sciences’ Mr Charles Mogale requested the minister to visit the facility as a matter of urgency saying it was in a bad state characterised by dilapidated structures.
Another issue of great concern was shortage of photocopying machines in primary schools which became a critical challenge at examination time.
Responding, Molepolole Adminstrative Authority Sub-region education officer, Mr Shadrack Moffat, said his office was collaborating with Kweneng District Council to improve the situation. ENDS
