20 Jan 2020

Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) in collaboration with the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) held interview presentations on Friday for the 2019 CEDA/DBSA university challenge top 10 finalists.

CEDA chief executive officer, Mr Thabo Thamane stated that entrepreneurship must be seen as an alternative to formal employment in the current era of high unemployment.

He stated that the challenge was growing and promised that CEDA would ensure the prize money increased throughout the years and also introduce interventions that would benefit the top 10 finalists.

“As long as I am at the helm of this institution, we are going to increase the cash prize,” he said.

Mr Thamane explained that the finalists went through rigorous training on presentation skills to prepare them for the challenge and urged captains of the industry to dispense a conducive and supportive environment for youth entrepreneurship

For his part, CEDA chief operations officer, Mr Andrew Madeswi thanked the finalists and the judges and encouraged the business community to assist in any way possible.

The CEDA/DBSA university challenge calls upon the youth of Botswana enrolled in institutions of higher learning across all levels to identify practical solutions to issues affecting the country.

The finalist who will come up with an implementable business idea to address any of the key issues will walk away with P300 000 and an extra P50 000 if it is a female candidate. ENDS
