Tonota Police are holding three siblings suspected of killing a 26-year-old Zimbabwean national on Christmas eve.

Tonota Station Commander Superintendent Oteng Ngada said in an interview that the deceased, who died three days later after admission at Francistown’s Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital, was found by passersby in the near Mabesekwa settlement, 67 kilometres west of Tonota.

Superintendent Ngada said  the deceased had been illegally employed as a herdboy in Botswana. The employer has been charged with employing an illegal immigrant.

He said an argument had ensued at a Seswe Cattle-post drinking spot leading to the three siblings beating the deceased with different weapons.

He said the three suspects had already appeared in court on a charge of murder and have been remanded in custody pending further investigations.

Superintendent Ngada said the body of the deceased, who hailed from Binga village in Zimbabwe, had not yet been repatriated.

Superintendent Ngada said police were also investigating the raping 73-year-old woman of Gulushabe lands by a 27-year-old man on December 31. The suspect has already appeared in court on a rape charge and will appear for again on January 21.

This is the second case of its nature to occur in the area following the arrest of a middle aged man of Dukwi who raped a 79-year-old woman the same month.

Tonota police are also investigating a case in which a 12-year-old school boy attempted to hang himself on the rafters of a house last week.

Superintendent Ngada said the Serowe boy, who was visiting his mother in Tonota, was interrupted by some relatives who cut the rope. Upon interrogation, the victim informed police that he was always being visited by evil spirits that urged him to hang himself, he said.

Superintendent Ngada said the boy revealed that this was not the first time he had attempted.

He is admitted at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital but in a stable condition whilst police investigations continue. Ends
