Maun police investigates rape, death incidents
 

Police in Maun are investigating a case in which a 35-year-old man is alleged to have raped a nine year old girl both of Dibogolapoo cattle post in the Sehithwa area on January 01.

According to District No.5 Officer Commanding Senior Superintendent Peter Gochela, the mother to the victim had observed that her daughter had difficulty in walking and when questioned the girl explained that the suspect has sexually abused her.

The girl was then taken to Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital and the medical examination revealed that she had been sexually abused.

He said the suspect was traced and arrested on January 02.

In an another case, Senior Supt Gochela said the police were investigating a road accident in which a 21-year-old man of Zimbabwean origin died along Disaneng road in Maun early morning of January 02.

According to Senior Supt Gochela, the man had taken the vehicle belonging to his visiting uncle without the owner’s permission.

Senior Supt Gochela said preliminary investigations indicated that the man lost control of the vehicle which then overturned resulting in his death.

The man was certified dead at Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital in Maun.

Senior Supt Gochela said Police in Maun were also investigating a death incident at Xhakao village in the Okavango Sub-region on January 02.

He said that a 60-year-old mentally disturbed woman was found strangled by a chain that was normally used to chain her to a corner post as a way of controlling her movements.

Senior Supt Gochela said that the woman was left behind by her 80-year-old mother for about an hour who later found her in that state.

He said the woman was confirmed dead at Gumare Primary Hospital while investigations to determine what could have caused her the death continue.

Meanwhile, Senior Supt Gochela said that Maun Police were still searching for two unknown assailants who killed a 17-year-old boy in Boseja Maun on December 27 around 2300 at night.

He said that the two assailants had found the 17-year-old in the company of his friend beside the road nearby one hotel in Boseja, where they asked for cellphones and stabbed the victim with a sharp object on his stomach and fled.

The victim ran to a nearby yard where he collapsed and later died.

Nonetheless, Senior Supt Gochela said that the holidays were peaceful in his jurisdiction except for the few incidents reported. BOPA
