Court remands four robbery suspects

Maun Chief Magistrate Thebeetsile Molalu has remanded in custody four men accused of stealing about P247 000 cash from a vehicle at an event at Maun Sports Complex.
According to the charge sheet, the accused persons; Bahiti Matengu, Kagiso Ngaka,Tshepo Seakanyeng and Gabert Ramokgalo with two others, are alleged to have acted together and unlawfully broke into a Honda Fit motor vehicle belonging to one Kempho Batshegi and stole the money on December 29 at Maun Sports Complex.
The money was proceeds from tickets sold for the festival that was held at the Maun Sports Complex.
Superintendent Chenamo Orateng of Maun Police, requested the court to remand the men since the case was a fresh matter adding that two other suspects were still at large.
Supt Orateng further said only about P38 000 had been recovered from the stolen money.
He therefore said the accused persons must be remanded in custody while investigations continued to prevent them from interfering with investigations.
Meanwhile, the accused persons requested that they be granted bail.
The accused cited that they ran small businesses of providing security at events therefore their businesses, which helps them to provide for their families, would suffer while in custody. Chief Magistrate Molalu will deliver a ruling on their bail application on January 14.
