Former mayors case early November

01 Sep 2013

Francistown High Court Judge, Justice Zibani Makhwade has set November 5 for arguments in the case in which former Francistown mayor, Councillor Ephraim Maiketso is seeking his re-instatement as the mayor.

Through his attorney Mr Morgan Moseki of MCM Moseki Attorneys, the councillor applied for leave to institute proceedings for a review of Francistown City Council (FCC) decision to remove him from the office of the mayor last year September.

In an interview, Mr Moseki explained that his client had to apply for leave to institute review proceedings against the council for unlawfully removing him from the office because he did not do so within the permitted four months.

Cllr Maiketso of Central Ward was ousted from the mayoral position through a motion of no confidence and Cllr James Kgalajwe of Satellite South was subsequently elected the mayor.

In the application, FCC and Cllr Kgalajwe are the first and second respondents respectively. Mr Wada Nfila of Nfila Attorneys is representing the council, while Ms Boipelo Matenge of Collins Newman appeared on behalf of Cllr Kgalajwe. ENDS
