Live the vision - VP

01 Sep 2013

With only three years remaining to reach the peak of Botswana’s Vision 2016, Batswana are being alerted to live the vision if they were to become a prosperous society.

The Vice President, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe on August 30 encouraged residents of Tshane, Lokgwabe, Lehututu and Hukuntsi in Kgalagadi District to live the vision. He said no stone would be left unturned in as far as public sensitisation was concerned.

Dr Kedikilwe, whose tour of the projects preceded the launch of the Vision 2016 Awareness Month in Tshane, called on residents to undertake sustainable and viable projects. He said they must also be resourceful and independent rather than depending on government.

He called on village development committees, dikgosi and councils to encourage communities to be committed to the running of their projects. He also urged communities to instill the spirit of self-reliance and volunteerism on the next generation. One of the projects the VP visited included a house construction by employees of State President in Tshane. The house is still at foundation level.

Office of the President principal public relations officer, Mr Peter Mabaka said with the help of Jwaneng Technical College (JTC) students, they would be able to complete the house timeously. The Vice President applauded JTC students for their volunteerism, saying it showed that they were living the pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation.

Other stakeholders who assisted in the house project included PPC Cement, Builders World, Maxi Save, Mochudi Hardware, Lulu Bricks, Hukuntsi Sefalana, Mmabolao and AT & T Monnakgotla. Meanwhile, Kgosi Bojosi Motshoge of Tshane commended the vision council for choosing his village to host the launch.

He said it was a clear testimony that Tshane had a visionary leadership that was capable of assisting the government to achieve the ideals of the national vision. He noted that most Batswana lived in the countryside and that the gesture would go a long way in promoting and generating sustained ownership of Vision 2016 by all Batswana, particularly those residing in rural areas.
