Official urges youth to refrain from negativity

Serowe youth have been urged to stop blaming government for their failures.
Speaking at a three-day workshop organised by Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC) in Serowe, BNYC public relations officer, Mr Motshegwa Thekiso, said young Batswana should maintain motivation to go about their pursuits. Mr Thekiso said the BNYC was not responsible for funding youth projects; instead the organisation provided assistance to the youth so that they could obtain funding for their projects.
He said some youth often came to the BNYC office with the perception that they would not get satisfying assistance and as a result displayed unaccepted behavior. On the challenge of stealing of some projects ideas, Mr Thekiso admitted that there were such incidents. However, he encouraged the youth to always remain with copies of their business plan and keep track of all the process they went through with their projects proposals.
He emphasised the importance of documenting and owning the project, adding by doing so, one stood a chance of boldly presenting his project or case in the event someone stole the idea.
Further, he said instead of complaining and accusing the government, the youth should come up with solutions to the problems. He said as young energetic citizens, they should strive to equip themselves with leadership skills as they are termed the future leaders of Botswana. He added that the youth should demonstrate to the government that they were indeed the future leaders by displaying the skills effectively. He advised the youth not to let the challenges hinder them from prosperity. ENDS
