Swimming finals Friday

The swimming competitions at ongoing Botswana games will come to an end tomorrow as the top swimmers in each event compete in a final to gain points for their districts.
Twelve districts are participating in the games.
Girls and boys competed in 50m in backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle and completed the session with a freestyle relay.
All races were closely contested with 4 heats per event.
Gaborone District were victorious in most of their races ending the day with combined team scores of 488 points, followed by Francistown with 430 and South East with 400 in the boys’ 100m, under 19.
Gaborone District won the gold medals for the under 19 girls’ 100m, boy’s 50m breast stroke, 200m mixed freestyle, boys and girls 200m breast stroke races.
Francistown got second position with a gold medal for the 200m breast stroke and silver medals for the boys’ 50m breast stroke, mixed medley relays and girls’ 50m breast stroke.
Tejzoravar Rai from the Francistown District got two gold medals while Ruvarashe Gondo and Takundanashe getting the gold and silver medals respectively.
Among the leading medalists were, Tselane Matthews, Andile Bekker Ethan Harry, Hannah Jobe, Kyra Harry,Lefa Kgang, Kgotla Mokobi and Jack Michelle from Gaborone and Taylor Vos and Jesse Okoche from Francistown.
Benco Van Rooyen placed South East on the map, getting a silver medal for the Boys 100m freestyle.
The medalists expressed joy following the victory, saying that they worked really hard for medals.
Jesse Okoche, who had been competing since she was 11 years old, told BOPA that getting the gold medals at 17 years was just an addition to her victories.
She attributed her winning to exercising on a daily basis, eating a balanced diet and avoiding junk food. ENDS
