One female passenger died on the spot while two others are in critical condition at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned at Shashe Bridge and fell into the river.
Tonota Police Station Commander, Superintendent Oteng Ngada said the deceased and three others were travelling to Tutume from Gaborone to attend a funeral that fateful Sunday morning.
He said preliminary investigations revealled that the driver lost control of the vehicle and it veered off the road hitting the bridge rails before plunging into the river, which was partially flowing. He said two passengers, including the driver, were treated for serious injuries and discharged the same day while the other passenger, a woman, was still fighting for her life at Nyangabgwe with serious injuries.
He said the body of the deceased, who hailed from Tutume, was lying at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital for post mortem. Relatives have been notified of her death. He said the driver, who failed to produce his driver’s licence, was yet to be charged for driving a motor vehicle without a licence and causing death.
Superintended Ngada warned motorists to be extra vigilant when driving, especially during the rainy season. ENDS
