05 Dec 2019

Three murder suspects in the killing of three people at Moshaweng and Lentsweletau villages, were arraigned before Molepolole Chief Magistrate Goabaone Rammapodi for murders and unlawful wounding on December 1.  The Moshaweng incident suspect Keautlwile Botena aged 25 allegedly killed two people by stabbing them with a sharp instrument following a misunderstanding during a drinking spree.

Molepolole Police Station Commander Superintendent Motlhaba Ramaabya stated following an interview that the incident left two people dead and two seriously injured.

It was alleged that the two deceased persons together with their two injured friends engaged in a fight with the accused who eventually stabbed each one of them with a sharp instrument leading to the death of Kgalalelo Tom and Kagiso Hume aged 17 and 21.

Two of the dead men were reportedly rushed to Scottish Livingstone Hospital with multiple stab wounds where they were certified dead, while the critically injured Ronald Elijah was reported to be recuperating at Scottish Livingstone Hospital and Katlego Bogate has been treated and released with minor stab wounds.

In nother incident, two Lentsweletau men aged 21 and 27 were arraigned before magistrate Rammapodi to answer for a single count of murdering the 46-year-old Motshegetsi Modipane at Lentsweletau village on December 01.

The two Bakang Mosiiwa and Pabalelo and Tshweneyagae of Lentsweletau and Broadhurst in Gaborone allegedly engaged in a quarrel with the deceased during a drinking spree and the deceased’s suspected lifeless body was later found lying in a pool of blood on the road a few meters from where the fight started.

Meanwhile the prosecutor sub Inspector Maureen Segokgo argued against Botena being granted bail as the matter was still new with preliminary investigations still being conducted.

Inspector Thema Marumola also called on the presiding magistrate to extend remand warrant for Mosiiwa and Tshweneyagae arguing that family members and the members of the public at Lentsweletau were still reeling from shock over the murder and would not be happy to see the two accused persons roaming streets barely two days following the alleged killing.
