King David fuses gospel with hip hop

The trend of mixing two different kinds of music to make one genre has of late become synonymous in the local music industry, particularly with young and upcoming artistes.
Such prominent genres are house-kwasa, a mixer of house and rhumba music and kwaito-kwasa which is a combination of kwaito and rhumba. These genres were popularised by renowned musicians such as Vee, Slizer, Wizards, Mingo and Mlesho, among others. Nonetheless, new artiste, Tebogo Seagelo aka King David cut teeth in the music industry with a hip hop gospel single, another genre which is slowly thriving locally.
In an interview, the upcoming rapper said he fused gospel with hip hop because he was a born again Christian who grew up with great passion for hip hop. He said he could not only do either gospel or hip hop separately because of the love he had for hip hop and respect for God, hence his product was of hip hop beats with a gospel message.
The single, dubbed King Spirit, is a promotional material for King David’s upcoming album to be launched in December. Inspirational tracks in the upcoming album include Holy Motswako, God’s Love, Hold my hand, One God and Re thuse among others.
King David, who is also the ambassador of King Spirit clothing brand said it was important for people to do something they loved, hence he released his single because of his passion for hip hop.
Meanwhile, hip hop has always been associated with the bad, but this time around King David used it to praise the word of God. ENDS
