12 Nov 2019

Police are searching for robbery suspects in a number of incidents that occurred in Maun recently.

In one incident, acting station commander, Assistant Superintendent Borefeletse Paphane said some suspects have robbed Fours Wholesalers of cash amounting to P165 605.

He said robbers, who were wearing masks and carrying an object that resemble a gun, threatened security officers carrying the cash box from the wholesalers in front of BancABC and managed to take it.

He said security officers were to deliver the cash box to the bank in the evening of November 7.

Investigations are ongoing.

In another incident, Assistant Supt Paphane said a 62-year-old man sustained serious head injuries in a robbery that occurred on November 7 at Riverside Ward.

He said the man was walking when the suspect hit him with a stone on the head before robbing him of P5 000 cash and fled the scene.

He said the victim, however, managed to identify the suspect.

The victim, he said, was admitted at Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital while the police continue to search for the suspect.

Still in Maun, police are searching for suspects who robbed a tourist in Daunara settlement.

Assistant Supt Paphane said the tourist belonged to a group that was hosted for entertainment by Daunara DS Trail Safaris on November 6.

He said when the tourists returned to their camping site, they found one of their tents damaged with what looked like a sharp object and an iPhone worth 800 Euros, 200 Euros cash and P700 cash missing.

In a different matter, the police are investigating an incident of attempted suicide.

He said a 34-year-old man of Boseja-Kubung in Maun, who had written a note that he was taking his life due to unfairness of life, was saved by a relative who found him hanging from the house rafters.

He said the man was recuperating at Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital. ENDS
