Accused file for charges withdrawal

07 Nov 2019

Gaborone High Court has given the Attorney General a deadline of November 27, 2019, to respond to an application for withdrawal of charges by two of the accused persons in the National Petroleum Fund (NPF) case.

This was after Attorney Unoda Mack filed an application on behalf of Sadique Kebonang and his twin brother Zein Kebonang in the ongoing National NPF money laundering case.

Mr Mack said the Kebonang brothers must be discharged from the NPF money laundering case as there was no substantiated case against them. “I do not see the need for my clients to be here, the charges against them must be dropped,” said Mr Mack.

The case was before Justice Abednego Tafa who said the court would convene on December 06, 2019 to hear the status of the affidavit. Even though the Attorney General was not represented, Justice Tafa had asked the duo of Wesson Manchwe and Pascal Mahangu from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to relay the messages to the colleagues. “Please inform them that the set dates are cast in stone, and therefore they must comply,” said Justice Tafa.

Justice Tafa said the court was focused on setting dates to deal with the application that was pending before the court. Ends
