A Molepolole Prison Warder accused of causing a hit and run accident which killed two Borakalalo siblings aged 19 and 20 and injured one man, appeared before Molepolole Principal Magistrate Ms Kefilwe Resheng on November 5.
The accused Pogisego Ramogotlho,30 faces two counts of causing death while unfit to drive due to intoxicating drinks.
He also faces a charge of causing death of two pedestrians and without reasonable excuse failed to remain at the scene of accident
On the fourth count, Ramogotlho allegedly drove the car without a valid drivers license.
The particulars of the offence revealed that on November 2, near prisons department along Molepolole/Letlhakeng road, the accused while under influence of intoxications caused the death of Kgalalelo and Galaletsang Mokwaleng by hitting them with car while standing alongside the road with a male friend.
The 22-year-old male friend sustained serious injuries and is admitted at Scottish Livingstone Hospital in Molepolole.
The accused is said to have allegedly committed the offence whilst unfit to drive the said car by reason of him having consumed intoxicating drinks with alcohol content in his breath measuring 1.02 milligrams per 1000 milliliters of breath, thereby exceeding the prescribed permissible limit of 0.22 milligrams per 1000 milliliters of breath.
However the accused pleaded for his release stating that he was not a threat as he was a citizen of the country and will abide by bail conditions set by the court.
Magistrate Resheng dismissed the accused plea for bail on the basis that the investigations were still at a preliminary stage.
“This matter is highly sensitive with families still reeling with shock over what befell them. I therefore dismiss your bail application looking at the gravity of the offence where two lives have been lost with one in critical condition” he told the accused.
The prosecutor Sub Inspector Ernest Sebubi had earlier pleaded with the court to extend the accused’s remand warrant on the basis that investigations were at an infant stage.
The accused will apppear for mention on December 5. Ends
