Botswana Volleyball star Igobe Sikuku has landed in Kuwait City, where he will be playing for Sahel Sporting Club.

Sahel Sporting Club has signed Sikuku for the 2019/2020 season.

He revealed in a telephone interview from Kuwait that he arrived safely at his new home, adding that despite being in a foreign land, he has settled well and also received a warm welcome from the hosts.

He said his stay in Asia will be short, given the upcoming Olympic Games in Japan next year.

He said he was spotted by Sahel Sporting Club after viewing his video clips on YouTube.

“I was then contacted by an agent who then forwarded my videos to different clubs and finally secured my contract.

I met this agent in Japan where I attended the trials,” he said.

Furthermore, Sikuku said it was not easy playing in Japan because of language barrier, culture and the style of volleyball the Japanese play.

However, he does not regret his stay in Japan as he has managed to acquire new and exciting skills.

Despite the challenges of cultural shock, he said the relocation has had a positive impact on his volleyball career.

Sikuku also acknowledges the support from a Zimbabwean native, Murray Ndlovo, who is the assistant coach for the team with which he attended trials in Japan.

He is a member of the Botswana national team and has represented the country at the African Senior National Championships in Egypt and Zone 6 African Senior Champs qualifiers in Mozambique.

At club level, the Tutume-born has played for Yaros, Diphatsa Volleyball Club and he has won numerous awards among them; best server during Mascom Volleyball League and JB Sports Volleyball Tournament. ENDS
