Good financial prudence has earned Botswana Football Association (BFA) acting first vice president, Pelotshweu Motlogelwa, a top position at Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA).

COSAFA has appointed Motlogelwa its vice chairperson for finance committee from 2019-202.

In an interview, Motlogelwa said that his appointment was influenced by the recent BFA’s good financial management standing.

He said at a personal level his appointment showed growth, noting that he was now going to sit in a committee responsible for 14 member states that form COSAFA.

Furthermore, he noted that at the association level, it reflected that BFA was being recognised at a regional level, adding that as the association they would share their experience with other federations, through COSAFA secretariat.

Asked about the criteria used to select people to serve in the COSAFA committees, he said COSAFA ‘facilitates 14 countries and it looks at their financial operations, when they want to appoint people in different committee.’

He said it was always easy for them to pick a suitable candidate, looking at the specialties and competencies among member states.

“I must be amongst the people they were looking for, and to answer your question of why did I opt to choose COSAFA and not CAF because they both showed interest in me, COSAFA is regional and its near Botswana, where I am employed, so in terms of time management, I might have a problem with CAF as it operates from Egypt,” he said.

Motlogelwa said he opted for COSAFA because they were still in transition to transform their financials to international best practices, hence it was paramount for him to ‘take one step at a time,’ he said.

Meanwhile, a press release from BFA said Motlogelwa is a graduate of Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) at the University of Botswana.

A Fellow of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants - ACCA, FCCA, Senior Management Development Programme (SMDP) - (University of Stellenbosch) with an extensive knowledge in football, having served at executive level of BFA for five years to date.

It says the vice president has successfully led the transition of Botswana Football Association’s financials and continues to transform them to international best practice.

Motlogelwa serves in several local boards of reputable organisations in Botswana, including Motor Vehicle Accident Fund as chairperson of the finance and audit committee and Botswana Qualifications Authority as chairperson of finance committee. ENDS
