Three men have joined the growing league of sports legends who have been inducted into the Botswana Sports Hall of Fame.

The sixth induction ceremony held at the National Stadium in Gaborone recently; saw the induction of Sensei Socca Moruakgomo, Andrew Kebualemang and Samuel Sono into the country’s sporting heritage for their contribution towards sports growth.

Speaking at the event, the Ambassador of Japan to Botswana, Kozo Takeda noted that induction into the hall of fame was a prestigious honour celebrating the sacrifices that sports men and women had put into the industry.

He expressed appreciation to Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) for its  continued efforts in recognising and growing the stories of men and women who had achieved ‘so much in their illustrious sports careers’.

Ambassador Takeda also congratulated the inductees for their immeasurable contributions to growing various sports codes.

The BNSC acting board chairperson, Martin Mokgwathi noted that while Botswana might not be recognised internationally as a sport powerhouse, it was important to preserve the rich sporting heritage that the country has.

“By preserving our heritage and history, we will ensure that we don’t forget our stories, our achievements and sacrifices,” he said.

He also expressed hope that recognition of the sports heroes and heroines by the BNSC would give future generations something to work towards.

“I wish to congratulate all those who will be making history tonight as they will be the sixth group of inductees to the Botswana Sport Hall of Fame,” he continued.

The sixth class of the BNSC sport hall of fame has three larger than life sports personalities who, between them, have practice experience of over 45 years. ENDS
