Murder accused teenager to appear in December

A Serowe teenager suspected to have murdered her brother on October 18 is scheduled to appear for mention on December 9. 

Boitumelo Rampeba, 19, of Serowe’s Sesoma Ward, linked to the murder of Mr Phatsimo Rampeba, appeared before Serowe Magistrate Court yesterday and was granted bail. 

The bail conditions are that she should report to the police fortnightly on Mondays between 7.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. She was advised not to interfere with witnesses. The unemployed teenager was arrested and arraigned following the discovery of the deceased’s body on October 18.

The prosecution, led by Sub-Inspector Reuben Thuma, told the court that police investigations were ongoing while a postmortem report was awaited. Meanwhile, another accused person, Kefentse Raseametso, also appeared before the Serowe Magistrate Court on a single count of unlawfully wounding.

The court heard that Kefentse stabbed Thokomelang Nare with a knife at Masenya Ward in Serowe. Prosecutor Thuma suggested that the accused be remanded in custody on grounds that investigations into the matter had just commenced. 

Earlier, the accused had requested bail stating that his livestock, including chickens and goats, was unattended. 

He will appear again on November 11. ends
