Gunners nullifies supporters meeting

11 Oct 2019

Management of BTC Premiership side, Extension Gunners, has issued a media statement nullifying tomorrow’s supporters’ meeting. The release has described the scheduled meeting as ‘illegal and unlawful’.

According to the statement signed by Gunners’ communications manager, Willoughby Kemoen, the team’s executive committee distances itself from the meeting that was billed for Ipelegeng Junior Secondary School tomorrow.

“We wish to inform the members of the club and to respond letters which we have received as undersigned by three individuals being Judas Keatsutswe, George Kerekang and Bruno Masisi purporting to be members of Extension Gunners. The trio are not card carrying members of the society called Extension Gunners FC. Their actions only mean to destabilize the club. We also wish to bring to their attention that the intended meeting is illegal and unlawful. Gunners would like to inform the media and the public that the meeting has not been sanctioned by the club,” reads the statement.

The club explains that its executive committee yesterday appeared before the First Instance Body (FIB) on various topics in a meeting which was cordial and mostly on advisory basis, enlightening.

The club has warned that if the said meeting go on as planned the club risked the docking of extra points in the league log.

“We also learnt the dangers of continuous contravention of club licensing matters which may involve the conduct of our supporters both on and off the field. We therefore caution our supporters to avoid any actions which may lead to the suspension of the club, points docking as well as relegation from football matters. Let us avoid dragging the club name on social media, as this may affect our profile in terms of public relations and sponsorship proposals,” it reads.

The club explains that it was doing all the best to comply with all football manuals including club licensing. It warns its supporters to desist from acting in a way that may offend the football statutes or any other rules.

Extension Gunners management are said to convene a special general meeting immediately after the general election as per article 17.1 to address all matters affecting the club.

Gunners were docked points at the beginning of the season due to failure to comply with the club licensing requirements. The team was among clubs that failed to pay former employees.

They currently lie in a precarious relegation drop zone with minus three points.
