Goya salutes GUC for human capital development

The Assistant Minister of Tertiary Education, Research Science and Technology, Mr Moiseraele Goya has applauded the Gaborone University College of Law and Professional Studies (GUC) for its contribution towards the development of human capital in the country.
He acknowledged the institution’s contribution during its 12th graduation ceremony recently, where he stressed the importance of collaboration between industries and institutions of higher learning as critical to advancing Botswana to a knowledge-based economy.
Mr Goya stated that all institutions should follow the national credit frameworks set by Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA), to ensure that all curricula was aligned with the national development agenda.
He congratulated the graduates for completing their studies; something which he said represented a valuable milestone on the massive investment that the government had put towards educating its citizens.
He also urged them to continue up-scaling their educational qualifications in order to stay relevant in the continually changing world.
The Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Fidelis Molao also emphasised the role of universities as critical in the sustainable development of the economy.
He advised GUC management and its board to observe quality through regular review of its curricula in order to keep up with the ever changing needs of industry.
Mr Molao also made a clarion call to GUC management to introduce agriculture based modules into their programme offering to further diversify the economy and develop agro-based knowledge through higher spectra of learning.
Dr Antoney Joseph, Managing Director of GUC, said the institution had a number of fully accredited programmes from which all students could benefit.
He said they continually made all efforts towards a high employability status for their graduates in order to make the institution one of the most sought after in the country.
He also expressed that the institution would re-orient into a full university in the near future, pending a number of reforms.
Mr Joseph expressed his appreciation for government’s commitment and support in sponsoring students for GUC programmes.
He also urged the graduates to work hard in securing their futures, while also working towards the socio-economic development of the country.
GUC graduated 1272 students across various degree, diploma and certificate programmes in conjunction with its sister institution, the Gaborone Commercial College of Higher Studies (GCCHS). ENDS
